As he passed me on his way out, his face twisted, and he leaned in close enough that only I could hear.

“You planned this,” he said.

“The whole night.

You planned the whole thing.”

“No,” I said quietly.

“I gave you every opportunity to stop.

I stayed married to you for six months after I knew, hoping you’d find a floor you wouldn’t go beneath.

You never did.
