The standard picture of Paleoindian and Early Archaic North America is built almost entirely from stone tools and the occasional surviving bone.

Within that picture, the communities of these periods are often described in ways that emphasize their technological simplicity: they were hunters who used stone weapons, they were foragers who gathered plant foods, they left simple campsites with few durable remains.

Windover does not prove that Paleoindian or Early Archaic communities everywhere had the specific technological traditions documented at the Florida site.

Climate and ecology vary, and different communities had access to different materials and developed different traditions.
